Algonquin signs Pan-Canadian Protocol for Sustainability on Earth Day 2009

11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
J-N Link, Woodroffe Campus

To recognize Earth Day and reaffirm the College’s commitment to sustainability Algonquin’s President Robert Gillett will be joined by the President of the Association of Canadian Community Colleges, James Knight, to sign the Pan-Canadian Protocol for Sustainability.

This protocol calls for colleges to integrate the principles of sustainability into curriculum; develop an institutional sustainability plan; incorporate sustainability practices in operations such as green standards for buildings, alternate energy sources and energy efficient transportation; and more.

Other Earth Day activities will include planting 41 trees on campus, a sustainability tradeshow, and recruiting volunteers to help remove loose trash not only from the campus grounds, but in neighbouring communities such as Centrepointe and Ryan Farm.

The entire college community is encouraged to get involved.

You can drop in on the tradeshow between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., check out the signing at 12:00 p.m., or get involved online by taking the Algonquin-campus community member survey.
